HOW TO DELIVER A HOME-RUN PITCH: 15-Point Checklist for Your Verbal Pitch. In this workshop writers will be given a 15-point checklist to help even the most tongue-tied scribe perfect a verbal pitch suitable for marketing their book or screenplay.

Book Publishing for the Clueless with Mike Nappa

Mike Nappa

You have heard you need an agent but you are not sure why. You want to be published but, if truth were told, you are not even sure how the publishing industry works. If this sounds like you, then be sure to sit in on Mike Nappa’s session, The Clueless Writer’s Guide to Book Publishing (How the Book Industry Works), at the OC Christian Writers Conference.

This session will be a practical, brass-tacks introduction to the business of writing taught by a publishing professional with over two decades of experience in the industry. Mike was an acquisitions editor for three Christian publishing houses and now is the chief agent and founder at Nappaland Literary Agency.  In addition to his publishing experience, Mike is also an award-winning, published author, so he is especially qualified to speak not only to the business side of writing but also to the heart of the writer.

Mike understands the need for writers to promote themselves and their books and is filling this need with his start-up public relations firm, Author Echo Public Relations.  He knows what it takes for a writer to go from rejection to publication – whether through writer representation, public relation assistance or even through his book, 77 Reasons Why Your Book Was Rejected – and writers attending his session are sure to learn more about what it takes to be published.

Mike will also be available to conference attendees for a consultation.  If you consider yourself a very skilled writer of Young Adult Fiction, Literary Fiction, Suspense Fiction, Pop Culture (non-fiction, Historical Non-Fiction, and Christian Inspiration than you should plan to attend and sign up for a consultation with Mike.  Have a question about the publishing industry but are afraid to ask? Try Mike – with his years of experience, he probably has the answer!

In addition to her session on what makes a great first page to your manuscript, Nancy will also be leading a session on writing humor for kids.  She will teach simple strategies any writer can use, even if you’re one of those people who just can’t tell a joke. Creating Believable Characters with Kathi Macias

How Memorable Are YOUR Characters?

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. Romans 12:6-8

Sherlock Holmes. Gandalf. Emma.   It’s hard to have a good story, let alone a classic, without memorable characters.  Are your characters believable?  Are they doing justice to your plot? How deeply are your characters drawn?
